Dozens of Salford students are helping with the costumes, props and set design for a production of Shrek the Musical Junior at a Worsley stage school.
Senior students at the Urban Stage School of Performing Arts, which runs youth theatres for ages five to 18, will bring the show to the university’s New Adelphi stage in April.
It is not the first time the school has worked with the university, they have had a long-term supportive relationship but this is the first department collaboration.
The musical takes inspiration from the hit film Shrek and its Broadway version. Urban Stage will be performing the Broadway Junior script courtesy of Music Theatre International, on April 10 and 11
Urban Stage offers students the opportunity to learn new skills and gain confidence through performing arts, learning from highly experienced professional performers.
It is an opportunity for the performing arts young people to see what they could be doing in the future.
Helen Kay, co-principal and founder of Urban Stage, is extremely grateful for the professional designs the University of Salford students have been working on.
She said: “We also wanted to show our students that there is a university on their doorstep with a professional theatre where they can continue their training. It’s all about giving them access to the opportunities within the city of Salford to continue their training and experience of theatre.”
Tickets for the performances are available now through the link here.
