Salford City have begun exploring new investment opportunities to aid the pursuit of ambitious growth targets.
Ten years on from The Ammies’ acquisition by ‘The Class of 92’, Salford City have announced that they are looking to attract external funding to drive the club towards its promotion aspirations.
The board have launched the process with the aim of bringing in the “right partner to help the club capitalise on its significant sporting, commercial and infrastructure opportunities.”
Salford City’s chief executive Nicky Butt noted: “We are backing Salford City with as much commitment and confidence as ever. We have achieved very special things here but there are major opportunities in front of us and we want to make sure we have the right mix of investment and strategic partners to take advantage of those opportunities.”
“We had an original 10-year plan and with strong foundations now in place, it was always the intention to explore options for the next phase. That includes potentially bringing in new partners to help us grow the club and best serve the fans and community.”
In 2019 David Beckham became the sixth member of the class of 92 – the group comprised of Manchester United Academy Graduates: Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt to take ownership of Salford City.
The former teammates combine for a 60 per cent share in the club’s ownership, Billionaire Singaporean businessman Peter Lim controls the remaining 40 per cent.
Since Lim and the ‘Class of 92’ gained control, Salford City have enjoyed a meteoric rise. In 2014 The Ammies were playing in the eighth tier of English football, a decade on and four promotions later the club are well into their fifth season in the EFL.
In 2020 Salford defied the odds to win the EFL Trophy, the Ammies defeated League One Portsmouth at Wembley on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
At the time the EFL Trophy victory represented a real statement of intent, highlighting the ambition of the club to compete at higher levels against better opponents. However in recent times, the club’s progression has been stunted.
Salford City have struggled this season, The Ammies currently occupy 19th place in League Two and were well beaten 5-1 by promotion contenders Mansfield in their last match.
Salford’s owners will be hopeful that new investment can kick-start another drive up the football pyramid
The Club have stated that “they do not intend to make any further announcements “unless the board approves a specific course of action; Salford City have highlighted that Tifosy Capital & Advisory, a sports advisory firm, are serving as the financial advisor for the endeavour.”
