Peel park

To honour the classic film Hobson’s Choice turning 70 this year, there will be a live screening held at Peel Park this May.

The live screening will be played during the day on Sunday May 19 where you will be able to watch the film in the place it is set.

The coordinator of the event, David Marsden, said: “It’s not just that we picked a film at random, this film is the film that represents the park.

“There are a lot of people around Salford that have a soft spot for this film.”

The classic film was released in 1954 and “there are all sorts of mentions in the film about Chapel Street and Salford” with Peel Park appearing the most throughout the film. If you are familiar with this film you may recognise Peel Park as the courting place for Maggie Hobson (Brenda de Banzie) and William Mossop (John Mills).

David added: “It’s (Hobson’s Choice) got an integral history within the park…Peel Park is an integral part of the story.”

This river is another recognisable location from Hobson’s Choice, it is shown in the scene where William Mossop tells Maggie Hobson that there is another woman.

Further details on the event will be posted on the peelparksalford instagram page.
