Late Hendry equaliser keeps Salford City unbeaten streak alive

Salford City left it late to seize a point from Swindon Town and continue their unbeaten run under Karl Robinson.

Callum Hendry’s 92nd minute goal cancelled out an earlier goal from George McEachran to give The Ammies a point against the run of play at the County Ground.

Robinson named just one change from his side’s victory at home to Wrexham last weekend, reintroducing Kelly Nmai back into the starting 11, replacing Callum Morton.

The game had started very slowly, with neither side causing much trouble in the final thirds. Swindon had a golden opportunity on the 23rd minute, with Alex Cairns producing a fine stop to deny Dawson Devoy’s header before Paul Glatzel shanked the parried shot over the bar.

Going into the break goalless, the Wiltshire club came out after the restart full of beans, starting a seige on the Ammies’ net which racked up a total of 18 shots in the second period.

Cairns yet again produced some excellent saves to deny former Chelsea midfielder loanee McEachran and Glatzel, keeping the scores level going into the final stretch of the match.

But the pressure Swindon exerted finally paid off when McEachran finally broke past the Salford backline with a threaded ball from Charlie Austin, with a neat finish past the goalkeeper.

Now looking to salvage a point from their trip south, Salford had to push and managed to snatch their equaliser through a low driven finish from Callum Hendry, scoring his first goal since returning from injury.

The contest ended even and kept The Ammies rooted to 19th place in League Two, on 35 points. It is a quick turnaround for the Ammies, welcoming Doncaster Rovers to the Peninsula Stadium on Tuesday night, with kick-off at 7:45pm.
