John Denton singing

The Salford teenage band The Height, funded by The Smiths star Johnny Marr, has released a brand new charity single titled ‘Type of Day’.

The Salford band consists of 13-year-old John Denton on vocals and guitar, Brandon Greenhalgh on bass and Ted Ellis on the drums.

Their first single ‘Nowhere’ was released in 2022.

John said: “It’s a song about growing up in Salford and having a regular day and trying to make the best of it. We’re all at school or college and sometimes it just another one of those types of days.”

The group who have been together for a few years have tried to separate themselves from the traditional 90s band crowd. The reason they sound so different is because of the different genres of music they listen to.

“I really like The Smiths, The Courteeners and lots of other 90s and 00s indie music,” he added.

”Ted likes dance and techno whilst Brandon is into the heavier stuff like Korn. So it’s great when we come together to make music because it helps us sound different.”

Despite the release of their new song, John revealed that they are already working on new material and are getting ready to record it all in April.

The band are preparing for a host of gigs across Greater Manchester in the spring and summer, including gigs at Bridgewater Hall in March, followed by The Academy 2, G-Fest and The Deaf Institute.
