Coach Karl Robinson praises Salford City on impressive win against Wrexham

Salford City head coach Karl Robinson noted that “there is more to come” from his side following The Ammies’ 3-1 win against Wrexham.

Speaking to the press after the game, Robinson praised the level of intensity and the forward-thinking mentality shown by his players. On the front foot from the outset, Salford’s dominant performance was deserving of all three points.

Despite the side’s impressive display against one of the league’s top teams, Robinson isn’t getting carried away yet.

“To get 11 points out of a possible 15 is remarkable, it claws us away from the problems that we had. But I’m sick to death of hearing people talking about promotion. The next game is Swindon away next week, that’s all that matters.”

Salford’s head coach believes that his team’s unbeaten run has been fueled by a level of frustration and regret about the team’s performances earlier in the season.

He highlighted that if the team are to continue their successful run the high effort levels must be maintained.

“We’ve got to make sure that we find that balance, (keep) working hard every day and make people proud.”

Although Salford were the better team throughout, before halftime a Wrexham fightback was well and truly on the cards. As Sam Dolby redirected Aaron Hayden’s header in the box past Alex Cairns to make it 2-1.

That was until Matt Smith restored the home side’s two-goal advantage with a sensational first-time volley 11 minutes after the restart.

Salford’s top marksman now has 19 goals in the league this campaign. Smith is currently League Two’s second-highest goal scorer behind Notts County’s Macauley Langstaff.

Robinson voiced his surprise about the lack of interest for Smith in the recent transfer window. Despite the player’s red-hot form, Salford “didn’t have a phone call from anyone about Matt Smith.”

“If I was managing somewhere else and had the resources to bring him in I’d look to do it.”

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson was quick to give Salford credit for their performance admitting that his side were “second best in all of the important areas in the game.”

“They’re good at what they do, look at them, last week they went to Crewe and won 3-2 they are uncompromising.”

Salford City are going to have to be similarly uncompromising if they are to extend their unbeaten run.

The Ammies travel to Swindon for their next League Two match this Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
