Karl Robinson speaks on transfers and form ahead of Salford City’s trip to Crewe Alexandra

Salford City make the short trip to Cheshire to take on the in-form and promotion-chasing Crewe Alexandra this weekend.

The Ammies’ form has improved under new manager Karl Robinson but this is arguably his biggest test yet with Crewe winning their last 4 league games.

With many injuries hampering the side so far this season, Karl Robinson felt that the club had to make new signings in the window and as of Wednesday 23rd of January, the club announced their first signing, bringing in midfielder Jez Davies from Burnley.

Karl Robinson said: “We bring in young players like Jez so they can grow and help the club move forward.”

“He’s a central midfielder who can get up and down the pitch really well, he can affect games, he always looks to be on the front foot and he likes to pass forward. They are some of the things we like about him.

It is important to have a good balance in the club, it’s important that layers have all the right aspects to their game including their attitude and commitment and Jez has all of that, we have been really impressed.”

When asked about the club conducting anymore business in the remainder of the window Robinson added “We’ll see, but I think it’s silly to come here and get excited by the window, I can’t control the club’s finances, but we need to get things right.”

With a few of Salford’s players out of contract in the summer Robinson said “We will not accept anything less than what we feel the players are worth”.

Robinson has been at the helm for 3 matches, so far picking up 5 points in what could be a foundation for Salford to climb away from the drop zone.

When asked what has impressed him so far about the club he said “Since I have come in the owners have been very transparent and honest. The players that I have worked with have worked hard and young players like Kelly have taken their chances when they have come.

It’s my job to try and get the best out of players.

Our young players such as Junior and Kelly have worked tremendously but the whole team has to work hard on a consistent basis.

“We want to be a team who is always looking to be better, that’s our mindset.

“The league table has no relevance when you go into games against sides that are above you, you have to set up your team exactly the same. I respect other teams but you have to go into these games against teams higher than you believing that you can win.”
