A wildlife area and a sensory garden in Salford are among two projects to have received funding to improve green spaces across Greater Manchester.
The Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund (GSF) has awarded over £400,000 to 18 community-led nature projects in the area, including a church council in Clifton and community group in Patricroft.
The Clifton Parochial Church Council and Patricroft Community Group CIC will aim to create better access to green spaces in their respective areas.
The Clifton project will see an increase biodiversity and attempts to tackle local food poverty, isolation and poor mental health by maintaining an area of St Thomas’ Churchyard as a wildlife area.
Patricroft Community Group CIC will make part of Ivy Park a sensory garden, which aims to address anti-social behaviour in the area.
The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “The natural environment is critical to the health of Greater Manchester’s communities and the prosperity of our economy.
“The projects backed by the Green Spaces Fund over the last year and a half are always brilliant and demonstrate the creativity and passion of residents across the city-region wanting to make Greater Manchester a better, and crucially, greener, place to live.
“These projects ensure everyone can access the benefits of green spaces, for both individuals and communities, and I look forward to these latest projects taking shape.”
