For Salford residents there will be major disruptions to travel on Friday December 8, as the Northern Rail are not running any of its 2500 daily trains.
The company also advised that commuters check before they travel on Saturday December 9 as well, with TransPennine Express also not running any trains on Friday.
TransPennine Express has released similar advice, urging people to check before they travel for Saturday as well.
The strikes come about after the train drivers’ trade union ASLEF voted to continue their strike action nationally in their ongoing pay dispute.
Mick Whelan, ASLEF’s general secretary, said: “We are in this for the long haul.
“Our members – who have not had a pay rise for nearly five years now – are determined that the train companies – and the Tory government that stands behind them – do the right thing.”
According to ASLEF, train drivers pay has stagnated since the Summer of 2019, with meetings with the transport secretary also derailing after December of last year.
Whilst most people would want those striking to get what they desire, there is also an expectation for discussions to start and end soon to limit the impact on day to day life.
