The Mayor of Salford, Paul Dennett, has issued a message to the local community on the future of younger generations, creating job opportunities, and supporting those struggling through winter.
Dennett expresses the need to guide Salford’s youth and praises the facilities the local community has, along with Salford’s “long history” of supporting young people.
Despite both Route29 and the council’s children residential care facilities maintaining a ‘good’ Ofsted rating, the statement revealed that there is still more work to be done “to attain the best possible outcomes in education, employment and life.”
He also said the council was delivering on “promises made at the last election” by creating jobs for Salford residents.
Digital and tech based opportunities will be expanded through a £2 million programme, opening 200 residents and 1,200 school children into tech and digital work.
£245,000 has been secured to fund a Supported Employment Service, aiming to assist 140 residents with autism and learning disabilities in Salford.
The mayor also announced plans to develop areas around the Crescent, Swinton and Eccles town centres to “breath life back” into our communities.
However, many residents of Salford, particularly from areas such as Eccles, feel underrepresented and believe the planned action is too little too late.
Dennett exhibits the significance of development in Salford but is also aware of preserving history:
“Redeveloping our city is not just about new builds, it’s also about protecting what we have. I made a commitment to bring Buile Hill Mansion back into community use.
“It is fantastic news that the planning panel has approved our ambitious plans for this much loved historic asset in the heart of our city.”
With winter around the corner, Dennett has offered financial aid to those struggling to make ends meet.
He said: “We are delivering the £3.2 million package of support for residents impacted by the cost of living crisis.
“It is crucial that residents seek support early to prevent the situation reaching crisis.”
