The 92 Foundation recently held the EFL Utility Cup tournament for young girls over the weekend.

The u13s competition aimed to encourage more young girls to get into grassroots football.

This cup was eventually won by the Irlam and Cadishead academy side who will have the opportunity to represent Salford City FC in the regional stage of the competition next year.

In a year where the Lionesses reached a World Cup final and have had an ok start to the inaugural UEFA Nations League, the rise of attendance for the women’s game has skyrocketed throughout the recent months with a 200 per cent increase in WSL attendances and 85 per cent in the women’s championship.

When asked about the long-term aims of these tournaments she said: “The aim of the tournaments is to increase participation in sports and showcase that everyone has a place in the world of sport and that they are accessible and to celebrate the different communities we work with at the 92 Foundation.”

The 92 Foundation has said that they are hoping the number of involvements increases every tournament and more young girls feel they will have a place in sports and feel welcome in a usually closed-off world.
