A Remembrance Sunday service and parade will be held around The Crescent in Salford.

The parade is set to assemble and leave from the A6 road outside of the public house, Old Pint Pot at 10:30am on Sunday November 12.

The parade will arrive at Albert Bentley Place by 10:40am at Salford Cenotaph – opposite the campus of the University of Salford.

This will be followed by a group of Royal British Legion and Armed Forces volunteers who will commence the service at 10:45am.

Services will include the observation of a two-minute silence, laying wreaths of poppies, as well as a rendition of The Last Post – a bugle call used when commemorating those that have died in war.

While the city of Salford pays its respects 115 years on from the end of the First World War, the importance of Remembrance Day remains as imperative as ever.

With November 11 falling on a day rather than Sunday, the Royal British Legion believes remembrance on Armistice Day is just as important.

Many charities work across the year to support veterans as well as those currently serving.

A Help for Heroes spokesperson said: “As we join the nation to commemorate the men and women who lost their lives while serving our country, Help for Heroes also remembers those still fighting their own battles today.

“We remain at the side of veterans and their families who are struggling with painful injuries, mental trauma, isolation, and more – providing life-changing support for as long as it takes.”

There are a number of ways to show support this Remembrance Day. By purchasing poppies, you are able to directly help fund the Royal British Legion’s work towards supporting Armed Forces community, serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.

You can view the wide range of poppies available on the RBL’s poppy shop and also read about the work being done from Help for Heroes.

Tesco, who have been supporting the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal are holding collectors at stores across the UK from November 3-5.

Customers at a self checkout can round up their total cost to support the charity.

The Poppy Appeal raises vital funds to support the Armed Forces community.
