A new free community event celebrating women has been announced for Islington Mill in Salford.
SIRENS (Sisterhood for Interdisciplinary Research, Exploration, Networking and Synthesis) are working together to remove barriers professional women face, such as the gender pay gap.
The free event on November 23 will display local work with the theme of WOMAN.
SIRENS was founded in June by Dr Caty Flynn to bring women together whilst breaking cultural and professional barriers. This is a volunteer-led group to highlight issues women face in society today.
SIRENS urge participants to “bring their own exhibition” to create more authenticity on the night.
The event will host a range of activities, including viewings of the exhibition space, networking and music from local women including DJs, organisations like PINK Mcr and artists like Caroline Dowsett and Tina Ramous Ekongo.
There will also be performances featuring audio-visual artist Dee Dixon, word artist Kate Ireland and many more.
The event will take place from 5-9pm with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available as well as bakes brought by volunteers of the event. It will be funded by the English cities fund supported by The Business Group.
