“We’ll look to have a right good go”: Luke Bolton speaks ahead of Salford City’s Swindon Town showdown

Salford City winger Luke Bolton promised “a good game for the neutrals” as his side prepares to face off against Swindon Town this weekend.

Salford come into the contest against The Robins’ having narrowly lost away at Wrexham, and are looking to bounce back against the Wiltshire side.

On last week’s defeat, the 24-year-old said: “Obviously it was a good start. I think we played really well in the first 25 minutes.

“We probably didn’t come out good enough in the second half. Defending wise, attacking wise we weren’t good enough on the ball.

“We conceded two in two minutes so that’s frustrating from the boys but you learn from it.”

Bolton thinks that having a week’s break has benefitted the Ammies, with a constant Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday schedule not allowing Head Coach Neil Wood from being able to make necessary adjustments.

He added: “It’s good, we can get longer sessions in that are a bit more intense. It should set us up well for Saturday.”

It has not been an easy start for Salford this season, sitting in 15th place in the League Two table, including a spell that saw one draw and seven losses in a eight match span.

The ex-Manchester City winger gave his reflections on how he feels the campaign has gone so far, saying: “Individually, other than being out for two weeks, I’m happy with how I’ve been playing really.

“I feel like I could have had a few assists that I haven’t, I would have liked a few more goals, I haven’t had enough shots in my opinion.

“As a team I think we started well against Forest Green, but then we got hit by a load of injuries.

“There was always that belief once we get the core of the squad back we can go on a run and we’ve shown that.”

Salford head into Saturday’s game against a Swindon Town side that have scored the second most goals in the league, spearheaded by Jake Young and Charlie Austin.

The Robins are in 6th place with 22 points, and could go as high as second with a win at the Peninsula Stadium.

Previewing the upcoming game, Bolton anticipates a high scoring affair. He continued: “They are a quite freeflowing team. I think Michael Flynn likes to play attacking football, so I think that shows why they’re scoring so many goals this season.

“We like to do that as well, so it should be a good game for the neutrals. We’ll look to have a right good go and keep them out from scoring the goals, and hopefully we’ll have a nice win.”
