15:18: Ceiling at new Eccles Poundland collapses hours after opening
Part of the ceiling at the new Poundland store, which was formerly a Wilko Store, in Eccles Town Centre has collapsed hours after opening for the first time on 30 September.
The problems in the store started with parts of the store being closed off due to the ceiling being damp which eventually collapsed.
Not long before the store was due to close, staff were seen cleaning debris from the floor.
The company have acknowledged that some of their new stores need updating and renovating.
Despite all this, the store still remains open to the public.

14:51: Manchester Property developer completes first of three towers in Salford
Manchester property developer, Renaker, have announced that the first of the three new towers at Colliers Yard, Salford has been completed.
The new 50-storey tower, Cortland, will offer 559 one, two or three bedroom apartments.
Within the tower, there is a 3-storey brick podium level that will include shops, restaurants and bars.
The plan also includes for there to be 0.6 acres of public space with seated and lawned areas.
14:27: New food hygiene ratings given out to two Salford establishments
The Food Standards Agency’s website shows that Chinese takeaway KC Chefs, located on Phoebe Street in Salford, was given a one out of five rating following an assessment on 11 September 2023.
Barton Oriental, a takeaway located on Barton Road in Eccles, was given a rating of four out of five on 27 September 2023.
13:58: £830k grant to be shared across Salford and Greater Manchester to support new bike parking spaces announced
A grant worth £830k has been announced to support thousands of new bike parking spaces across Greater Manchester.
Organisations including small businesses, community interest groups, education providers and NHS healthcare providers can apply for grants worth up £15,000.
The grant is intended to encourage people to cycle to these locations that have this new infrastructure with targets being staff, pupils, residents, patients and visitors.
Applications close on Friday 10 November 2023 at 5pm.

13:35 Police attend Salford Petrol Station following a report of children sparking lighters on forecourt
Last night, Salford Police arrived at Best One Seedley Road petrol station after it was reported that children were knocking at the shop window, whilst clicking lighters around the heavily flammable forecourt at around 5:30pm.
Faz Cheriyam, who was working when the incident occurred, alleged that the children were around primary school age.
Two children were then seen having their details taken on nearby roads with one of them being searched by officers after being stopped while riding a bike.

12:40: “People of interest” in county lines drug dealing investigation identified by Police
Members of the public in Salford have been asked by Greater Manchester Police to help find four men that they would like to speak to as part of an operation to crack down on county lines drug dealing.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “If you know the identity of anyone in the images, or you see yourself in one of the images, please contact police on 0161 856 5053, quoting ‘Operation Display’ and the number of the image you have information about.
Operation Display is an investigation into the alleged large-scale county lines drugs supply operating across Salford.

12:20: “It’s staggering hypocrisy”: Salford MP slams Prime Minister following reports of northern leg of HS2 being scrapped
Last night on Robert Peston’s show, Salford MP Rebecca Long-Bailey criticised the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after it was reported yesterday that the northern leg of HS2 to Manchester was set to be scrapped.
She Said: “The sad thing about all this us that the Prime Minister is saying we now need to look at the costs of this when he was at the table when the deals were being done.
“He was the Chief Secretary to the Treasury all the way through this, the Chancellor, and not at one point did he raise issues about the cost.”
Long-Bailey then went on to criticise Sunak for the lack of communication with local leaders on the issue.
She said: “It’s staggering hypocrisy, and even worse, he hasn’t appeared to engage with local leaders in the the north-west, or indeed other parts of the country about the plans to scrap HS2.”
