With the new school year just around the corner, and the cost of living crisis continuing to pinch purses, here’s a round-up of all the places in Salford to access free school uniforms.
Salford Family Partnership’s Uniform Exchange
A free uniform exchange is available at any Salford Gateway, or Swinton Civic Centre, from 10am-2pm, Monday-Friday. Any old or unwanted school uniforms, shoes, and accessories can be brought to For The Love of Food, St James’ Church, any Gateway, or the Civic Centre, and exchanged for other pre-owned items.
Salford City Academy
All new Year 7 students at Salford City Academy can apply for a free blazer, courtesy of the school. Guardians must accompany children to a collection day on Tuesday, August 15, before a series of onboarding tasks. Information can be found at the Salford City Academy’s booking website.
Emmaus Salford School Uniform Hub
Community support charity, Emmaus Salford, have The School Uniform Hub was launched in August 2020 by Emmaus Salford in partnership with Guinness Partnership and Sal’s Shoes, and this year have access to an extensive range of school shoes, kindly donated by Bury Grammar School.
Appointments to the hub must come through the Salford Citizen’s Advice Bureau, or by local schools.
Salford Schools Uniform Freecycle group
As well as these, the Facebook group Salford Schools Uniform Freecycle offers guardians the opportunity to find free schools uniforms, shoes, and accessories for schools across the city.
With more than 2,000 members, the group caters to most sizes, genders, and ages, with guardians asked to make appointments to collect items in schools, or at home.
