An alternative healing practice is supporting pain-sufferers throughout Little Hulton.
Sound therapy group, Moonflow, was set up by Little Hulton’s Hazel Fleming Cook, 54, who first experienced the method after recovering from a knee operation four years ago.
The sessions are held at St Paul’s Community Hall, Walkden every Tuesdays and were set up to support Hazel’s walking group, Worsley Walkers.
Sound therapy uses sound, music and specialist instruments played in therapeutic ways, combined with deep self-reflection techniques to improve health and wellbeing. Hazel said: “I’ve been able to help people who suffer massively from mental health problems through getting them outdoors. I know the holistic approach works wonders.
“It is effective in not only achieving a state of relaxation but it also has a way of moving through blockages in the body.”
Sound therapy has been known to treat stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, and pain-related conditions, by using tuning forks, vibrations, and sound baths.
The sound is created entirely by Hazel herself using tuning forks, Tibetan Bowls filled with warm water and placed on the back, and many more instruments. She said: “We are working on a physical level as we are targeting muscles, organs, nerves, plexuses, and tissues.”
A few elements are involved in a sound bath such as resonance, entrainment, and healing vibrations.
Despite Moonflow being a new addition to Little Hulton, Hazel commented: “I am very pleased how successful it’s turning out to be, I feel it’s something needed in my area, as so many people are dealing with mental health issues.”
The sound therapy sessions are held at St Paul’s Community Hall, Walkden, M28 3LN and take place every Tuesday evening 6-7pm. It is £8 per session.
