MATCH REPORT: Red Devils mount second half comeback to beat Castleford

Tries from Brodie Croft and Shane Wright saw Salford Red Devils come from behind to win against Super League strugglers Castleford Tigers.

Following on from the Reds 20-22 win against Leigh in the Rivals round, Salford came into the game in 6th place.

Cas have only won two games this season, sitting in 10th place going into round 9 of the season.

They travelled to the AJ Bell Stadium on the back of a win against bottom side Wakefield Trinity, and carried that form into the game.

Tigers were on top for much of the first half, with Greg Eden sneaking in on the left to put them in front early on.

Salford pushed for their equaliser, with a Marc Sneyd try being ruled out by the video referee.

Stellar defending by the Reds kept them in the contest, and their efforts were rewarded minutes from half time.

Kallum Watkins, Ryan Brierley and Brodie Croft combined to score, with the Man of Steel finishing the play under the sticks.

Marc Sneyd scored the conversion, putting the teams level going into the break.

Salford thought they had taken the lead two minutes after the restart, the video referee ruling Sam Stone’s try out for not being grounded.

Ryan Brierley prevented a drop out skilfully and that set Salford up for their second.

Penalties further down the field meant Salford easily gained the metres, with Shane Wright collecting a Marc Sneyd pass.

He carried the ball over despite Gareth Widdop’s best attempts to stop him and put Salford in front.
