Salfordians have joined official farewells to the classic Ford Fiesta which will be scrapped later this year.

Ford dealers Evans Halshaw hosted the “Farewell Fiesta” event at its showroom near Salford Quays on Saturday March 11, paying homage to the Ford Fiesta car which has been in production since 1976, spanning seven generations.

To date, more than 22 million Fiestas have been sold, with plans to scrap the model in June 2023.

Andy Romaniszyn, a former graphic design student at the University of Salford, owns a customised black and gold sixth generation Fiesta.

He said: “The Fiesta has become quite a family name in the car world, and for it to end, I think it’s such a shame especially since it’s getting close to the 50th anniversary. The least they could have done is let it run for 50 years and then say goodbye.

“I like the character of the Fiesta, its got a go-kart feel with the handling, and I love the history of it, how it came out, what its become.

“I’m keeping it forever.”

Andy makes YouTube videos showcasing his adventures with the car, which can be found here.

Inside the showroom, several Fiestas were on display for the event, alongside other Ford icons such as the new V8 Mustang GT and vintage Model T.
