A crackdown on serious and violent crime in Salford is under way after a spate of incidents so far this year.
Police are stepping up investigations into serious crime, deploying additional uniformed and plain-clothed officers throughout the city, and encouraging communities to stay vigilant.
Stop and search powers have also been used in defined areas since late January to prevent serious violence, find weapons and apprehend those carrying weapons.
The victims include a 39-year-old man who needed “life-saving treatment” after an incident at Oakhill Court, Mandley Park Avenue, on Wednesday February 15; a 21-year-old man found with knife wounds to the neck on Hankinson Way on Tuesday January 24 and a 62-year old man taken to hospital with serious injuries at an Aldi car park on Heywood Way on January 13.
Chief Superintendent Anthony Creely, of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Salford Division, said: “GMP Salford is committed to preventing and reducing this type of crime and making communities safer.
“Officers are ramping up efforts to crackdown on the issue and are working closely with GMP’s dedicated team tackling serious violence and knife crime – Operation Venture – as well as drawing on other specialist resources from across the force.
“There has been an increase of stop and search within Salford since the start of the year, which is an important and effective policing tactic used to keep the public safe. Officers ensure that all searches are carried out in a lawful and ethical manner.”
He also appealed to the public to play their part.
He said: “If you know someone is carrying a knife, please challenge that behaviour. And of course, if you see an incident, you must report it to the police.”
