In this series of reviews, Alfie Mulligan and Harry Warner will be delving into a world of cooked breakfasts and scrutinising Salford’s kaleidoscope of cafés and diners from Blackfriars to Boothstown, from Kersal to Cadishead all in the name of public service (and not for their enjoyment) to crown one of them Salford’s best full English.
On a miserable Sunday morning, we found ourselves in need of another warm breakfast.
And following a short walk from Salford Shopping Centre, we were able to find the Hub Cafe on Cobden Street, just off Broughton Road for the pursuit of Salford’s best breakfasts.
@likwid_media Hub Cafe 3.5/5 – A lovely corner cafe tucked away from the Broughton Road. This cafe itself is basic on interior but makes up for it with quality scran, which you’d certainly prefer. With a lovely atmosphere created by the chef and a hearty breakfast there isn’t much to complain about. Being one of the more expensive breakfasts on the pursuit it has to have a few marks down but nonetheless its still worth a visit and I for one am going again. #food #foodreview #foodie #scran #salford #manchester #hub #cafe #breakfast #breakfastclub #brekkie #superbowl #halftimeshow #abcxyz #xyz #fyp #likwid #podcast #manutd #trend #follow #superbowl2023 #breakfastreview #great ♬ original sound – Likwid Media
We entered the cafe not knowing what to expect, except the prospect of our hunger being tackled by a hearty full English.
And on our arrival, the cafe itself was pretty basic in regards to the interior, with only a few small pictures on the wall and the basic style of furniture.
But the smell coming from behind the counter was enticing, with a queue of food delivery drivers waiting patiently for their takeaway breakfasts.
It seemed as though we had just missed the breakfast rush hour, as they were clearing the tables as it was simmering down.
Ordering the ‘Hub Breakfast’, for the price of £6, the meal consisted of two rashers of bacon, two sausages, two eggs, chopped tomatoes, baked beans, mushrooms, a hash brown, and two slices of buttered bread.
The breakfast was one of the more expensive breakfasts we have ordered so far, and with a can of Coke for £1 to follow, the expectations were very high.
With the others ordering sausage and bacon sandwiches, they all came within minutes of ordering something quite impressive.
And when the breakfast was placed on the table, a massive smile came to our faces.
The sausages separated the baked beans and chopped tomatoes, acting as if they were groynes on a beach, but had more of a classic chip shop style than a classic pork sausage.
The bacon was a balance between crispy but not burnt, and the eggs were cooked to perfection with a runny yolk.
The only downside was the lack of black pudding from the order, and the hashbrown was average, very similar to what has been seen at most cafes we have visited.
But nonetheless, we all left well-fed and happy which certainly raised our spirits on a dull Sunday morning and set us up perfectly for the rest of the day.
Overall, I would recommend this cafe, although it’s tucked away and noticeable from the main road due to the signage. With a well-cooked breakfast, it certainly makes up for the interior which was never a problem anyway. And with the atmosphere inside the cafe was lovely with the interactions we shared with the chef, made us feel welcome which certainly made us want to return in the future.
