Fake letters aimed at creating hatred and anger in the local Salford Islamic community have been shared across social media.
The fake letters have been shared across social media, in particular Facebook with the intention of creating anger and hatred in the local Salford area. Being taken to heart by the local Imam and the rest of the Islamic community in Salford.
At the current moment it is not known who has sent the letters.
Imam Syed Mahboob Rasool Hashimi said: “This letter has been posted locally through peoples letter boxes and all over social media. The statement posted is about woman. It is designed to build an image of us preaching hard line rules and stereotypes. It has been created to cause hatred and disivion in our community.”
The letter falsely claims to be about an Imam moving to a new area of Salford stating ‘I would like to introduce myself as your new neighbour’ as well as that ‘woman can only speak when spoken to inside the mosque.’
In a Facebook post, Imam Hashimi wrote: “Since our formation in 2021 we have been kindly welcomed and encouraged by the wider community and for that we are forever grateful. We were created to provide a place of worship for the community to form togetherness and gain an education.
“We strongly reject everything that is stated in the letter and all of our sermons and publications are done solely on our website.
“We are only here to demonstrate the true moral values of Islam such as equality, fairness, mercy, compassion and freedom of choice. If anyone wants to know more about us and our values please do not hesitate to contact us.”
“Hopefully after our new renovation project is complete there will be an open day for everyone to come and visit us.”
