Officials have warned of the dangers of frozen water after a family were caught walking over the Bridgewater Canal in freezing temperatures.
The news comes after the Bridgewater Canal Twitter page, @BridgewaterWay, tweeted a photograph of what appears to be two adults, two children and a dog walking across the frozen water.
The photograph comes less than two weeks after four children died in Solihull after drowning in a frozen lake.
15 schoolchildren were also caught skating on The Dam at Queensway, Swinton, on Monday.
Officials stressed importance of safety in freezing temperatures. The Tweet read: “Your safety is so important to us.
Your safety is so important to us.
‼️ DO NOT under any circumstances follow in the footsteps of this family who decided to walk ON the #BridgewaterCanal when it recently froze over.
Our message is simple, NEVER venture onto frozen water. pic.twitter.com/EZG2zViQ7z
