Creep, Best Thing in Town, 11 O’Clock Tick-Tock. Some of the defining singles of the latter half of the 20th century; and all by teenage bands. But, Salford has a new addition to the list in the form of the city’s biggest up-and-coming band, The Height’s, debut single Nowhere.
In an eclectic daydream of acoustics, Nowhere‘s bubbling melody is remiscient of winding country roads on a summer’s day. A nod to both Australian indie band, DMAs, and homegrown legends, Courteeners, Nowhere‘s rush of internal thoughts blossom against a chirpy, catchy tune. Released tomorrow (Thursday 22 December), this single is bound to be on repeat across many a Salford home this festive period.
Headed by a vocalist/guitarist with pitch way beyond his years, John Denton (12), The Height is completed by Bassist, Brandon Greenhalgh (12) and Drummer, Ted Ellis (16). After meeting through mutual friends, John and Ted began creating music together after school. Then, after accompanying his Grandma to Francis House’s Jubilee Tea Party, John met Brandon, and The Height was formed.
With their debut gig only months back, at Eccles Beer Festival (August 8 2022), The Height have made full use of the after school hours, producing quality work that most A-Level music students could not achieve. Undoubtedly, their appearances at Salford’s hit festivals, Langworthy Live and Irlam Live, had them meet and perform for hundreds of Salfordians, most likely how an unspoken energy of homegrown roots emulates through their music.
Nowhere is due to be released across streaming platforms tomorrow (Thursday 22 December), with its accompanying video scheduled to be aired on Christmas Eve at 7pm via their YouTube channel.
