This is why Kings Church in Salford set up a free ‘festive fun’ event that reached its 800 person capacity before it had even started.
The event had a variety of entertainment such as Live Music and Dance performances, candy cane challenges, food and drink and more.
It is mainly run by members and volunteers of Kings Church and was set up due to Covid-19.
Event organiser, Dan Hudson, said that when they had initially set up the event, it was as a socially distanced drive through grotto which attracted over 300 cars.
Mr Hudson said: “During Covid we realised everything was closing in the area so all the businesses that would normally run Santa’s grottos were no longer allowed to let people into the building.”
Now that the pandemic is over Kings church decided it wanted to reach out to more people.
The festive fun event was designed to bring people together and not exclude those who are struggling with money this winter.
The event is non-profit with only a few activities costing money. Any profit that is generated by the event will be used to fund other free events by Kings church.
He continued: “The idea is not to make any money, it’s to run a good event really.
“Naturally you’ll make a profit from a raffle or something like that, but all that money will get pumped back in to all the other stuff that we do.”
Local community members helped fund the event through donations of food and items for the raffle that was held.
“It’s beg, borrow and steal a little bit, so, like a Christmas tree firm in Bolton, they drop off a stack of Christmas trees for us to use to make the place look nice.”
Kings church runs other local events for the Salford community to engage with such as litter picks, easter giveaways and a big summer event.
Events like these are vital during times of crisis as they provide much needed rest bite for families which is why they prove so popular.
