Budweiser Brewing Group reps visited Salford Precinct yesterday to spread awareness on alcohol consumption in attempts to tackle the ongoing issue.
Budweiser Brewing Group were helping the people of Salford understand the facts alcohol’s effects and what steps are needed to reduce alcohol consumption over the Christmas period.
Ange Holmes, who works for Budweiser Brewing Group, said: “Ideally you should not be drinking more than the government guidelines and that’s 14 units.
“So what we are doing here today in Salford Shopping Centre is a quick survey with people and we are explaining to them, how much is too much.”
“You can still enjoy your Christmas, just moderate your drinking if you are drinking too much
“It makes sense to be aware of the amount you are drinking because sometimes people do not know how much they are drinking.”
Drinkaware also share the same views as Budweiser Brewing Group.
Bina Gandhi, who works for Drinkaware, said: “14 units is what the Chief Medical Officer for the UK says you shouldn’t regularly consume.
“What we find with alcohol consumption and when the when people are regularly consuming above the 14 units, we can see that it impacts all aspects of life.
“Hopefully we can reduce the impact alcohol has on people’s lives.
“You can download the drink aware app which will encourage to take a few drinks during the week.”
Excessive alcohol consumption has a great number of effects, not only on the consumer but also their loved ones. Short term effects start from alcohol poisoning and elevated violent behaviour, and the long-term effects go as far a diseases such and liver and mouth cancer or heart disease.
Alcohol usage is a know factor in causes for divorce, with unemployment and domestic abuse being results of alcohol misuse.
