The Kings Arms have been hosting a monthly experimental comedy night named ‘Entertainment Club’.

The show ‘Blanco y noir’ took place last Saturday (December 3) as the final event of the year.

Jim John Harkness, the event’s Organiser and Performer, said: “We try and encourage artists and performers who aren’t in the mainstream and are in between genre boundaries. We encourage them to come and experiment and play around with ideas.”

The evening featured two live performances accompanied by live music from the band ‘Wondrous planet’.

Lauren Stone, a comedian who performed at the event, said: “I think the night is important, it’s nice to have a space to do stuff that’s weird and not have it stamped out of you by mainstream styled comedy nights. This is something completely different.”

The event started back in 2019 and has since hosted countless comedians, artists, and musicians from the fringes of the artistic community.

Mr Harkness added: “People sometime laugh at me when I’m just trying to have a conversation, I sometimes forget what I’m saying. It’s freeing to be able to do that in front of people and be in on the joke.”

The night saw Mr Harkness purposely humiliate himself in front of a wide audience. At one point he plunged his head into a bucket of icy water, and then proceeded to put it down his pants.

O.B.Wilson, a Musician and Author who has previously played at the event, said: “I’ve been to Entertainment Club four times. A lot of the time the performances are made to make people uncomfortable and challenge people’s expectations of what comedy is. It’s brilliant.”
