A Salford student has completed a four-hour DJ set to buy essential items for the homeless on the streets of Greater Manchester.
Bronagh O’ Connor, 23, completed a four-hour DJ set in John Lewis last month to raise money for the homeless.
She said: “I think there’s such a big issue that really needs to be tackled because we are all struggling at the moment with the heating crisis and not being able to pay bills.
“It always just makes you think, I can’t even fathom being completely outside and just not even having any form of protection at all.”
She beat her £100 target by managing to raise over £200. With the donations, Bronagh went to charity shops to purchase hygiene products, toothbrushes, emergency sleeping bags, socks, coats, and jumpers.
Bronagh, who studies Bio-Medical Science at Salford University, handed out the items to rough sleepers around Greater Manchester.
She said: “I think the reaction was just very, very grateful. You could tell that they were visibly cold and the stuff we gave them really meant something to them and definitely made their day.
“There was one particular guy who was in a wheelchair, and we went over to him with a couple of blankets, and he was so so grateful. He said ‘have you got any trousers’ because I only actually own one pair.
“He was telling me how he had just come out of hospital; he was just really, really struggling.”
Bronagh will be donating the leftover clothes to different homeless charities in the Salford area.
She said as much as it felt good to help people, it also made her feel quite sad to see people in that position.
“Lots of people doing little things, is ultimately better than one big person doing a big thing.” she said.
