Smokers in Salford have been urged to be “Smoke-free before Christmas” by setting up free 30 minute appointments.
The campaign is courtesy of the Government-funded organisation, Salford Health Improvements.
The organisation has set up free 30 minutes appointments that you can either book with an online booking service system or by phoning the number they provide.
In the 30 minutes, Salford Health Improvements provides one-to-one support to ensure that they can support people to stop their smoking habits for good. The drop-in sessions supply tools and techniques, such as access to medication to aid with the success of getting smoke-free.
The Salford Government website shows the support that is available at the Salford Health improvements organisation such as Nicotine Replacement Therapy including, patches, gum, mouth and nasal sprays.
The smoking rate within the Salford population averages out at 21% which is the highest rate in Greater Manchester and England. The national average is around 15%.
Dr Christos Chaintoutis, a Consultant in Attentive Care said: “When someone comes into hospital and needs to be ventilated and incubated. The worst-case scenario would be if they smoked, even at any age as it can reduce someone’s ability to fight infections.”
The figures also have suggested a link between smokers and bad mental health as 40% of smokers in Salford have suffered from long-term mental health issues.
Not only does smoking cause around 7 out of every 10 cases of lung cancer but can also cause cancer in many other parts of the body such as the mouth, throat, oesophagus, and stomach.
