The Red Devils Foundation have announced a long-term partnership with a Manchester-based Touch Rugby club to get people involved in social sport.
Starting in January they will host weekly touch matches free of charge, and open for anyone to attend, at Eccles Sixth Form College. The sessions will be every Tuesday, 7-8pm, from January 10th until February 14th.

Attendants will be able to meet new people and integrate into a new community while exercising in a relaxed, social setting. Elite-level coaching from the NQ Rebels players will be available, with the opportunity to attend their club training.
NQ Rebels Head Coach and player, and England International, Gabe Pennington, said, “NQ Rebels are really excited to be partnering with with the Salford Red Devils for a new social Touch offering in early 2023.
“Touch is unique in that it allows both genders to play in the same team, and compete at all levels, whether that be in local social leagues, or even internationally. There are countless transferable skills that women and men may have developed playing sports like netball or hockey, that lend themselves to picking up a Touch ball and trying it out for the first time.”
“The North West is also filled with talent across Rugby League and Rugby Union and Touch provides a great pathway for women and men previously involved in rugby, or those wanting to develop some of their on-field skills.”
NQ Rebels play at the competitive level in England’s premier Touch Rugby national competition. Last season they ranked second in the National Mixed and Men’s tournaments and won the Women’s Championship.
Touch Rugby is a minimal contact, mixed-gender form of rugby, that is played with six players on the pitch at any one time, usually with an even three males and three females split.

The partnership will be mutually beneficially for both Mancunian clubs. While Red Devils will benefit from engaging local members of the community interested in rugby, NQ Rebels will also have their eyes out for fresh new talent in Salford.
Pennington went on to say, “We’re hoping that together, NQ and Salford Red Devils can provide support through social touch games and training to some of that untapped potential in the region and encourage increased participation in our sport over the coming months.”
