Much loved Salfordian and British Legion stalwart, Alan Holloway, has died away after battling a string of medical challenges.
Alan Holloway and his wife, Beryl Adamson, ran the British Legion on Langworthy Road for 20 years, only leaving once the married couple took their retirement.
Alan died in Salford Royal yesterday but is survived by his family of 6 children, thirteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.
Born in Runnymeade in 1938, the couple married in 1959, moving into their first marital home, Ivy Terrace on Eccles New Road. Following the passing of his wife in 2020, Alan’s health sadly began to decline.
Holloway’s daughter, Janet, said:”He was Salford through and through, a larger than life character.
Sadly Dad’s health started to decline after the loss of Mum in 2020, she was the love of his life.”
The couple ran several other local social clubs over the years and were much loved members of the Salford community.
The family are said to be comforted by the outpouring of love from fellow Salfordians following Alan’s passing.
One Facebook user, Wendy Rourke, said: “So sorry to hear this Janet. Sending my deepest sympathy and lots of love to you.”
“So sorry to hear about Alan, your Mam and Dad were there for me once. RIP” said another, Brenda Jackson.
Janet continued: “We, as a family, would like to thank everyone for the well wishes and kind words, we’ve had so many.”
