“We need the donations more than ever this year” – Wrap Up Salford urges people to make donations as the cost of living crisis continues

A community project focussed on delivering second-hand warm clothes for those struggling with the cost of living crisis is appealing for donations.

Run by Worsley Rotary club, ‘Wrap Up’ collects donations of warm winter coats, jackets and jumpers and delivers them to struggling families across Salford.

Volunteer and member of the Rotary club, Trevor Jee, said: “It’s more important this year more than any as the cost-of-living increases. The donations are starting to pick up now as the message gets out there.”

The idea of Wrap Up is an easy concept. There are many people in sometimes urgent need of warm clothing over the winter months, especially this year as the cost to heat our homes is increasing. People who have good, warm coats which they may no longer wear or want can be given away.

In 2021 the scheme gave almost 3000 coats in good condition to all ages.

Wrap Up Salford is making available collection points to obtain coats and then distributing the coats to people and families in need via charities.

Trevor continued: “We work with charities and community organisations, so I will drop the coats off and then they will provide them to so many people, such as homeless, the elderly, children and families.”

This year, charity partners such as, Barnabus, Coffee4Craig, Lifeshare meals for Homeless People, Salford Loaves and Fishes and many others will receive the donated clothes.

Worsley Rotary, who include Eccles and Salford along with Manchester and Irlam Rotaries are working from the Ellesmere Centre, with other volunteers, who loaned them a unit to be able to sort out all the donations.

Wrap Up Salford will be collecting coats until the 28th October. More information can be found on their website.
