OnSide charity are holding consultation events for the public to share feedback on their proposed Salford Youth Zone
The consultations are open this Wednesday and Thursday to the public and will aim to inform residents of Salford about plans for the upcoming project.
OnSide said: “The consultation evenings will allow people to share their feedback on the proposed Salford Youth Zone. The public will have access to planning documents before a planning application is submitted to Salford City Council.
“The Youth Zone itself will follow the OnSide Youth Zone model. OnSide is a national charity that oversees a network of over 15 Youth Zones in the UK.
“The youth zone will offer over 20 creative, sporting and enterprise and employability activities per night – 7 days a week.
“There currently isn’t a timeline for construction and opening, but the Youth Zone will take up to two years to develop.”
Salford Youth Zone will be open whenever local schools are closed. Seven days a week, all day Saturday & Sunday and all-day during school holidays, with the entry fee costing 50p for a typical four-hour session.
The youth zone will have facilities catering to a wide range of interests including:
- 4-court indoor sports hall
- Indoor climbing wall
- State-of-the-art gym
- Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts facilities.
- Performing arts studio
- Cafeé serving hot nutritious meals (costing
no more than £1).
The consultation event on Wednesday 12th will take place at Lark Hill Primary School, Liverpool Street from 3pm – 6pm.
The consultation event on Thursday 13th will take place at Pendleton Gateway, 1 Broadwalk from 10am – 4pm.
OnSide followed: “Salford Youth Zone will be an important building for young people and a key new amenity for the area. The design should provide a place that is inspirational and recognisable while also accommodating the requirements for first-class facilities in sports, arts, performance and enterprise.
“Salford Youth Zone will enhance the area by providing a destination for the young people of Salford giving them somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. This exciting new building will be located in Pendleton off Belvedere Rd and adjacent to Broad St, close to the University Of Salford.”
