Rebecca Long-Bailey, MP for Salford and Eccles, has tweeted her support for Labour leader, Keir Starmer’s, pledge to create a new nationalised energy company, named GB Energy.
Long-Bailey backed the need for public ownership of energy to help people with the cost of living crisis.
She said: “Next up needs to be energy supply and distribution networks to bring bills down.”
She also praised everyone who campaigned for the policy.

The Labour project promises to create a state-owned energy company within a year of taking office, following the general election which is due to take place in 2024.
The “Green Prosperity Plan” aims to make the UK the largest renewable energy supplier. This, Starmer suggests, would require major investment in offshore wind farms and nuclear power plants to help ease the spiralling energy prices due to excessive fossil fuel company profits.
The Labour leader also spoke about the UK’s dependance on Russian gas and its contribution to ‘Cost of Living Crisis’, reiterating the need for a nationalised, self-sufficient British energy industry.
He also championed the need to reach ‘Net Zero’, aiming to remove 100% of fossil fuel emissions by 2030.
The Labour leader failed to mention the re-nationalisation of any of the other ‘Big 6’ industries, including mail and water – a position that Rebecca Long-Bailey has backed since her own leadership campaign in 2019.
