The Call Inn is offering elderly people free hot meals in a bid to tackle the rising cost of living.
Operating from St. Paul’s Church Hall in Little Hulton, the community cafe received funds from the Big Local Community Centre earlier this month.
The free meal scheme is set to run every Thursday between 11:30AM – 1.30PM, throughout October.
Mark Craig, owner of the Call Inn, said: “I’m hoping that it will give elderly people a little bit of ease. They’ll see that there’s something out there… and they’ve got somewhere to come.
“I’ve got that peace of mind as well, knowing someone’s come here, I’ve fed them. If that’s the only hot meal they have that week, it’s better than none.”
With meals ranging from Toasties to Steak Pies, The Call Inn hopes to provide not only hot meals, but company for those suffering with loneliness. He continued: “If they’re struggling, at least they’ll know they’ve had one hot meal. Especially those who are on their own.
“We’ve had people come in on taxis on their own… the fact one gentleman still felt comfortable enough to get himself here, even though he was by himself, says quite a bit.
“Its warm in here and reasonably friendly. We don’t bite!”
The free meal scheme is also being offered in the Bethany Church throughout October.
