Manchester-based Solicitor, Daniel Adcock-Kirsh, is swimming the English Channel at the end of June to raise funds for an NHS charity.
Daniel, a Litigation Associate at Manchester law firm Kuits, is taking on the most historic and iconic marathon swim challenge to raise funds for Northcare Charity. Northcare support NHS staff, patients and families across hospitals and community services in the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, which covers Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Salford.
The swim is scheduled for 27-29 June 2022, weather and tides permitting, and will be the culmination of two years of training for Daniel, which has been facilitated by Karen and Dave Quartermain at Uswim Adventure based at Dock 9 in Salford Quays.
Having started serious training for his channel swim in May 2021, he completed his qualifying swim in Lake Windermere in the Lake District in October 2021, having swam for six hours in a water temperature of 15.5C degrees or less.
When he sets off from Folkstone for his crossing attempt, Daniel will have 21 miles to swim and can only wear a bathing suit, swim cap and goggle for it to be officially recognised.
Daniel said: “I am taking on this marathon swim to raise money for the NHS in the Greater Manchester region and I have specifically requested that my donations go to paediatric services. Having twice had first-hand experience of the services, attending to both my daughters, each time in very distressing circumstances, the care, support and treatment they received was nothing short of heroic.
“Such was the level of clinical and pastoral care through to the after care upon being discharged, I have wanted to, in some small way, show my gratitude for those people who work tirelessly to keep us and our loved ones healthy, often in very difficult and stressful situations. Swimming the channel is a challenge I’m relishing and the support I have received so far has been fantastic”.
