Today marks the start of foster care fortnight 2022 and Salford City Council are to host the first in-person fostering event since lockdown in a bid to encourage more people to consider fostering.
Set up by The Fostering Network, the campaign runs from the 9th-22nd of May and it showcases the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers.
This year’s theme is ‘fostering communities’, over the next two weeks there will be a host of events taking place all over Salford raising awareness of the benefits of fostering.
Salford Council hosted an event at the Elm Bank events centre in Eccles this morning where people were invited to discuss their thoughts on fostering and also receive advice from Council representatives.
Lisa Pendlebury, Salford City Council Foster Recruitment Officer and organiser of the event, said: “It’s a big thing taking a child on in your house. It changes lot’s of things but it brings lot’s of really positive things as well. So we’re just emphasising the support you get and you’re not alone.”
She added, “It’s a relaxed morning to try and get everybody back together again, physically because obviously with lockdown, things have been on Zoom.”
“We wanted to get back to face-to-face and have a chat, but we’ve also opened it up to the public to come and find out more about fostering”.
The event is scheduled to run again next Thursday on May 17th with organisers expecting a large turnout.
She added, ‘We’ll be here with coffee, cakes and biscuits’ and advises that if anyone is considering going into fostering, then this is a must go to event.
