A survey conducted by Salford Now shows that residents believe fly-tipping is increasing across the city.
Nearly all those who responded to our survey – 94 per cent – said they have noticed an increase of fly-tipping in Salford, an offence that is punishable by a fine of up to £50,000 or imprisonment for up to five years.
Many residents said they had reported fly-tipping in their area but would like the council to increase CCTV to catch more culprits.
Another suggestion was to bring back community skips in the worst affected areas in Salford to see if this helps the problem.
Over the pandemic fly-tipping increased by 23.5 per cent across Salford, likely due to recycling waste centres being closed and limited slots to book.
“Try to fine as many as possible and publicise. Many know nothing will happen so there is no deterrent.” One resident said
Another resident said: “I have noticed it in any land or areas tucked away from general view. I have spotted it in numerous areas of Swinton, Clifton, Weaste, Langworthy. I am a litter picker with Salford Litter Heroes and constantly report tipping.”
Household waste sites are free to use for waste and recycling from across Salford, for non-business users.

The government have since decided to crackdown on fly-tipping, households will no longer have to pay to dispose of DIY waste since currently some local authorities charge for the disposal of household DIY items.
