Four of Salford City’s squad were featured in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Week this week.
Matt Smith, Corrie Ndaba, Stephen Kelly and hattrick hero Brandon Thomas-Asante were all present following a 5-1 home victory against Scunthorpe United.

The emphatic win was The Ammies biggest league victory since the 19th of September 2020 where they beat Grimsby Town 4-0 away from home, which coincidentally also featured a hattrick – on that occasion from Ian Henderson.
Highlights of Saturday’s fixture can be viewed below:
Thomas-Asante was the clear man of the match, scoring three vital goals to help the team to victory. His first being a vital second goal for Salford that killed Scunthorpe’s chances of coming back just before half time.
He followed this up with a second in the 67th minute to make it 3-1 and restore Salford’s two goal advantage, before sealing the deal with an 81st minute third for him and fifth for his team.
Matt Smith secured his place after opening the scoring on 17 minutes from a Jason Lowe assist before grabbing an assist for Asante’s second goal on 67 minutes, a goal that you could argue sealed the deal for The Ammies.
In a post match tweet he said: “This win keeps our unbeaten run going. Thanks for the great support again today! On to the next one.”

Rangers loanee Stephen Kelly also grabbed a goal that lead to his inclusion in the team of the week, with Corrie Ndaba’s strong defensive showing rounding out a heavily Salford City favoured XI.
This result ensured that Salford’s unbeaten run has been extended to eight games on the bounce, last losing to Northampton Town on the 29th of January, and if they carry on like this, the playoffs may just be reachable for Gary Bowyer’s side.
