Marc ‘Livewire’ Leach takes his next step to become world champion after winning the Lonsdale Belt.
This came after his unanimous decision win against South-London’s Chris Bourke on Friday night.
Livewire is now the third man from Salford in over 100 years to become British champion. Joe Bowker was the first man, he was champion in 1902 and then Jamie Moore became champion in 2003.
The 27-year-old, from Salford, dominated the fight and the judges agreed, scoring the fight 117-111, 116-113 and 116-112 all in favour of Leach.

The victory which meant Leach was crowned British champion, was Leach’s 19th professional bout which took his record to 18-1.
Alongside his boxing, Marc coaches both of his sons junior football team Ordsall Park Juniors Football Club.
Marc wore an Ordsall Park Juniors tracksuit as he entered the ring, while all the children proudly watched him live on the television back in Ordsall.

The Super Bantamweight fighter has been trained by Jamie Moore since the age of six and was delighted for Marc. He spoke to BT Sport after the fight: “We’re absolutely over the moon for Marc, he’s worked so hard and waited a long time for this.
“Now he’s got a Lonsdale belt over his shoulder, only the second person from Salford to have it after myself, so very very proud of him.”

Marc Leach was the betting underdog going into the fight especially because the bout took place in Bourke’s home city London. As the referee raised Leach’s arm, shouts of ‘Salford Salford Salford’ could be heard from his passionate travelling crowd, who had made the journey South.
Leach has only ever lost one fight, which was his pro debut, and the defeat was only by one point. After gaining the Lonsdale Belt, Leach’s next steps will be revealed soon.
