Shock Radio, the University of Salford’s radio society, will be broadcasting live for 24 hours to help raise money for Comic Relief from 9am on Monday 14 March until 9am the following day.
Joe Lander and Courtney Holder are the two presenters enduring the marathon show, with Station Manager Alex Charles taking part in a two hour rowing machine challenge.
Joe, a first year at the University of Salford, said: “We unfortunately have to run the ship for the full 24 hours, otherwise it does not quite constitute a 24 hour broadcast.
“We will be joined by guest presenters, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to be taking over.”
Alex, who will be operating the tech desk from 12pm-2pm on Monday and then overnight from 1am-5am, is also braving a live haircut by his Drivetime With Half a Licence co-presenter, Olivia Snelson.
Alex said: “It’s going to be a long long night, but we’re quite excited, we’ve set up quite a lot of new software to make this work, so we think we’re in quite a good position.”
The two hour rowing machine challenge will also be live on the air during Joe and Courtney’s broadcast, an event that Alex is eagerly awaiting: “Me and my co-presenter, Olivia, were originally going to do a cycle but it’s changed.
“From 11am-1pm I’ll be doing a two hour row on Shock Xtra for Comedy Campsite. It’s going to be a long day, but I’m excited because it’s all for a good cause.”
The show is the first of its kind in Shock Radio’s history, and is something that Station Manager Alex Charles wanted to challenge himself with after setting up Shock Xtra earlier in his tenure.
The broadcast will also feature live music performers, such as Evie Moran, a dad-jokes try not to laugh challenge section, and Alex Charles’ two hour DJ session.
