TFGM were in Salford Quays today encouraging the residents of Greater Manchester to use their new E-bikes and pushbikes.

The scheme which currently boasts 250 bikes in total, is hoping to have 1500 bikes in use by this summer.

Michael Clegg communications director for Transport for Greater Manchester said: “We are trying to encourage people to leave their cars at home a little bit more often and take walking and cycling as a viable option for short journeys”.

Iain Baxter, cycle hire manager for Transport For Greater Manchester said: “All the costs go back into operating the scheme, we have a managed service with beryl the operator, who we pay a fixed management fee and part of that fee is revenue from usage”.

“In the summer we’ll have about 3000 stations, about 1500 bikes, they’ll be all across Manchester city centre, Salford and Trafford, if your kind of a draw a circle around the city centre, Fallowfield, that’s the zone we’re looking at”.

To unlock the E-bikes users pay £1 and then 10 pence for each additional minute. For the pushbikes users pay 50 pence to unlock and 5pence per additional minuet.

The bikes will be based around MediaCityUK, Peel Park, Salford Crescent Trafford and Fallowfield.
