Karen Quartermain, of Uswim!, said: “The Santa Swim is the perfect time to embrace the cold water. With Santa himself cheering you on, warm drinks, mince pies and a tasty gift it’s the perfect start to Saturday. On top of that, the benefits of cold water dipping go on and on. From an immune system boost to the post swim high. What’s not to love?”

All swimmers will have a fee to pay before they take part. There is an online booking discount, with adults priced at £15 and children (aged 8 to 15 years) priced at £5. Uswim! will also accept pay-on-the-day payments, but these are priced at £20 for adults and £10 for children.

Online tickets for the event can be found here.

Cold water swimming is seen to have numerous health benefits, which is persuading people to take the dip. From improving circulation to reducing stress, Salford residents now have the perfect event to de-stress and enjoy the cold waters.

All swimmers will be required to use tow floats and to wear brightly coloured swim caps as water temperatures are estimated to be around an icy 6 degrees; with all swimmers partaking to be at a competent level.

Uswim! also advise people to wear a wetsuit, but it is not mandatory. Therefore, the hardcore ‘skin swimmers’ can brave the water without any protection.
