Award- winning folky songstress Amelia Coburn is performing live in Salford in March 2022.
The Kings Arms on Bloom St will be hosting one of the gigs from her Spring tour on the 12th of March.
Being nominated for BBC radio 2’s Young Folk Awards, winning Best Breakthrough artist of UKE magazine and being played on BBC Radio 6 music, Amelia Coburn is definitely not one to be missed.
The songstress spent her summer performing at festivals such as Northern Kin festival and The Gate to Southwell Festival. She said “I’ve not only missed performing live but I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to meet different people at gigs. Chatting to people after the show is one of my favourite parts of it. It’s going to be so nice to have some of that ‘normality’ back in our lives.”
As someone from Middlesbrough, Amelia explains what’s she got in store for Salford.
“Expect the unexpected! Although you can definitely expect some old favourites and freshly penned alt-folk songs, I’m known to throw some curveballs into the mix when it comes to my choice of covers.
I have played Salford a couple of times. The first time was around 6 years ago supporting a Beautiful South/Housemartins tribute band called ‘The Southmartins’ and the last time was a headline solo show, but that was all the way back in October 2017, so I can’t wait to come back!”
An enchanting adventure through a musical forest of positivity is how to explain one of Amelia’s latest single releases ‘Perfect Storm’.
She explains her story in the music industry.
“I used to regularly play at local open mic nights in my hometown Middlesbrough when I was growing up. From doing those I met other musicians and creatives who gave me a helping hand along the way. Being part of the BBC Young folk awards a few years ago definitely helped me navigate the folk music scene, and now I’m being mentored on the English Folk Expo scheme, I’m getting even more help and knowledge about this industry.
“My music taste is really eclectic, but I particularly love singers that tell stories, such as Joni Mitchell and Vin Garbutt, which drew me to folk music. Also playing acoustic instruments like the ukulele and stick dulcimer lends itself very well to the acoustic singer-songwriter genre rather than heavy metal or hard rock ha!”
On the Spring tour Amelia will be bringing a special twist as she plays new material from her upcoming EP that will ‘hopefully’ be released in April.
The tour will also be Amelia’s first ever nationwide headline tour, she said “which is quite special in itself”
As its December Amelia shares her favourite Christmas song which may or may not spread some controversy.
“Very tough question – probably Stop the Cavalry by Jona Lewie. It’s an absolute (Christmas) cracker and great to have a boogie to”
