They want to provide green space, more tree cover to improve the air quality and to enhance the local economy.
Labour councilor Gina Reynolds, who was elected in May this year, said: “I think it’s fantastic… The square at the minuet looks very dated, it’s very concrete, and I just think it will be good to green it up, make it more attractive which I think will bring more people into the area.”
Groundwork is holding drop-in sessions until March, to collaborate with locals on what they’d like the changes to bring.
Community project leads Lydia Marsh and Sara Walker said: ”We’re looking to implement nature-based solutions into the area to add some life, biodiversity into the area and make it more attractive space to come and shop.”
Swinton and Worsley council has been voted the greenest council in the country and is also the only council to have a climate action board.
