Santa has been spotted travelling around Salford on his sleigh raising funds for 100th Salford Scouts Group.
Last night Santa Super Sleigh Salford went around the streets of Irlam o’ th’ Heights spreading Christmas cheer and raising money for the 100th Salford Scout Group via the Lowry District Scouts charity.
Each week across the Lowry district over 500 young people are involved in Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers with help from over 100 adult volunteers.
Assistant Cub leader and assistant group Scout leader, Victoria Boon, discusses what Santa Super Sleigh Salford is all about.
She said: “We are bringing Christmas cheer to the streets of Salford with Santa on his sleigh and lots of wonderful volunteers collecting money for the Scout group.
“It is so important to keep the Christmas spirit alive and bring cheer to everybody and it is really nice seeing the community come together to support us but more importantly see Santa. If you see him coming and you see his lights get out and give us a wave!”
Young Scouts have also been out in Salford helping Santa to collect donations, something which once Beaver and now leader Joseph Foster admits is really important.
Joseph said: “When the Scouts help out that goes towards gaining their badges and it gives them confidence and important life experiences of doing charity work.
“It also gives communities in the area the chance to experience Santa, especially after the two years that we have just had with Covid, and I think it is really nice for the young children to experience something like this.”
Santa began his journey on Wednesday 1 December and has three more nights remaining on his tour of Salford – check out where you can catch a glimpse of him before he heads back to the North Pole:
In return for bringing the festive fun, the group have received a warm welcome from Salford residents.
Victoria explains: “One night Santa was stalked by about 10 cars and in the end we had to stop on one of the streets and all of the children flooded out with fistfuls of coins to put in the donation cup, it is just great.”
