“They think we deserve death and nothing else” – Salford graduate trapped in Afghanistan desperate to escape the Taliban’s rule
A Salford graduate from Afghanistan is looking to escape the Taliban with his young family to move back to the city.
Ali, which is not his real name, fears that it is only a matter of time before he and his family are either found by the Taliban or “perish due to the ever-increasing difficulties” of being forced into hiding and cut off from civilisation.
He has been forced into hiding since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August, using his “dwindling savings” to survive.

‘Dance Like a Mother’ in Salford offers dance classes for new parents and their babies with the assistance of baby-wearing.
The Salford dance classes are considered a great way for parents to bond with their babies while taking part in a dance class, supported by research which has shown that research young babies who were carried seemed to cry and fuss less than babies who weren’t which has a positive impact on both parent and child.

Singers in Salford are celebrating the return of in-person Christmas concerts this year.
After the coronavirus pandemic forced many music groups to cancel their festive shows last Christmas, musicians from across the city are excited about being able to perform together again this December.

A Co-operative is opening soon in MediaCityUK, replacing Booths and is running on 100% renewable electricity. The Co-op will include coffee, a bakery, fresh, healthy products, meal ideas, award-winning wines, ready meals and pizzas, free-from, Fairtrade, and everyday essentials.
A funding boost has been provided through the Co-Op’s Membership programme. Membership of the Co-op unlocks additional value through in-store offers and rewards members with 2p in every pound that they spend on Co-op branded products which are then added to their own personal membership account balance and donate the same amount to local causes.

A PopUp Painting Review – Salford painting event turned night into a pleasant mixture of creativity and elegance
The PopUp Painting events, launched in 2013, aims to bring the creative experience of canvas painting to anyone interested, with a brush on one hand and a drink on the other.
It wants to provide a fun time to those who have never painted before, and a relaxing evening to those experts of watercolours and brushes.
On the 28th of November they came to collaborate with Salford’s SE7EN Brothers Beerhouse in Lockside Lane, so the opportunity to paint, and drink while at it, was freely given to anyone. The theme of this particular event was Michelle Shore‘s Van Gogh-inspired Starry Night over Manchester.

Six teenagers are to appear in Magistrates Court after being involved in Manchester robberies
After investigating two reports of robbery and a stabbing in Salford, the Prestwich Clough area, and Blackley between the 8th March and the 23rd March 2021, detectives from Operation Valiant have charged six teenagers.
Following these incidents, a 15-year-old boy suffered a punctured lung and 4 other children were hurt. The boy has since been released from hospital.
Two 16-year-old’s and three 15-year-olds, who can’t be named for legal reasons, have been officially charged in relation to the robberies.

Salford Police officers recover stolen vehicles during night patrol.
This comes as part of of Operation Custodian, a standing operation to police streets, aiming to prevent a range of policing challenges, from street theft to public order and a range of offences related to alcohol misuse.

“Take a pill and you’ll be fine’ and that’s not always the case”- Transcend Studios offers free meditation classes
Wellbeing center Transcend Studios is offering free meditation and healing classes over Christmas, as well as a number of other activities which include workshops and classes such as yoga, belly dancing, tai chi, trapeze yoga, and reiki healing sessions.
Transcend studios are able to run evens like these because they are a part of a CIC which is a Community Interest Company. Therefore, all the money raised is given back to the community and benefits the local people of Salford.

“These conversations could change the course of someone’s life” – Seven Brothers Pub plays host to Movember Charity Event
Seven Brothers have joined Pringles in a bid to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer and men’s mental health.
Fueled with pies and pints, the mini-event was held at the Seven Brothers Beer House at Media City UK on Saturday to educate men and women on the Movember Foundations programs in a bid to raise awareness of the importance of getting friends, families, and strangers to talk about their struggles before its too late.

Finding the right family for a child is essential for a child or young person to be happy for their future lives. This is Salford’s need to know guide of what the process of adoption looks like and what to expect when adopting a child, with advice from Adoption Counts, a Regional Adoption Agency covering the adoption services of five Local authorities within Greater Manchester and Cheshire East – including Salford City Council.

MATCH REPORT: Salford City bow out of the FA cup after 2-0 loss to Chesterfield
Salford City crash out of the Emirates FA Cup after a disappointing 2-0 loss to National League side Chesterfield.
A stunning strike from Liam Manderville gave the Spireites the lead in the 28th minute with a late 86th minute attempt from Jim Kellermann putting the final nail in the coffin for the Ammies FA Cup hopes.
Salford were not without chances of their own, however, having nine shots on target and 65% of the possession overall but were still unable to convert.

Activists from Manchester Trans Rise UP protested last Saturday in Salford’s Media City to speak out against the BBC’s handling of trans-related articles.
The activist held another protest back in October, just after the article was released, and from the lack of action from the BBC, they came to protest again in the windy and cold weather.
Phoebe, head of Manchester Trans Rise Up, said: “We are members of the trans community and we are here because the BBC has been publishing, for about a year now at least, institutional transphobia.”

Lightwaves festival returns to Salford Quays
The light instillation is back after being cancelled last year due to Covid-19.
The annual light festival animating Salford Quays is lasting for 10 days, launching on 3rd December, and ending on 12th December. Each night lighting up at 5pm until 10pm. There are 12 brand new light installations at the 2021 event, one being ‘Floating Earth’.
