On Friday 3rd December at 2pm, Salford Energise centre will be hosting a ‘Self-Defence’ event in response to the recent rise of spiking in nightclubs, and ongoing dangers on the streets.

With activities that are accessible and only £3, the Energise Centre are trying to adapt their activities in an attempt to relive the anxieties that many people may be feeling right now.

Caitlin Jackson is organising this event, and she said: “We hope to shed some light on these recent tragic events, with some inclusive, enjoyable and light-hearted activities.

“Our self-defence event is our way of moving forward into the right direction, giving people in Salford a bit more peace of mind, and allowing them to learn new skills.”

Caitlin pointed out that many students walk through the city at night, putting them even more at risk along with the recent rise of spiking. Therefore, she would like to do whatever it takes to prevent these events from becoming even more prominent in the news.

“As a community centre, we value the safety and security within Salford and believe as a service we can help keep members of Salford safe. The event will be a great opportunity to meet new people as there are free beverages available after.

“On the other hand, it could be fun to bring a friend along and try something new together.”

The Energise Centre’s ethos is to ‘Live Life To The Full’, therefore they are welcoming people to come and enjoy themselves, and make the most of this useful opportunity.

They will also be handing out useful resources about spiking and keeping safe online, that people will be able to take away with them.
