The annual New Year’s Day swim is finally making its comeback to Dock 9 at Media City this new year.

After being cancelled last year due to Covid restrictions, the 10-year strong swim is returning as people are expected to brave the cold waters to raise money for children’s charity Reuben’s Retreat.

Event organizer Karen Smith expressed that ‘It didn’t happen last year but we kind of had a feeling it wouldn’t, so everyone that entered – their money still went to charity.’

Passionate about raising money for an excellent cause, Karen explained that “For the last 10 + years, every year we pick a different children’s charity, to raise money for. I’m a children’s nurse so it’s close to my heart- so every year we donate the entrance fee to that.”

In previous years, numbers of participants have been high, with this year looking to be even better, as brave souls enter the wintery waters in speedos and wacky costume. There’s even a best dressed hat competition.

The 200m tow-floats compulsory course and 100m non-yow float course ensure there are options to join in and try open water swimming in a safe, encouraging environment.

Join Manchester’s most daring as they fight the freezing water on the 1st January to face fears, try something new and raise money.

Entry costs £25.00 (16+ years) and £12.50 (7-15 years)
