A bus stop on Seedley Road, Salford, has been the target of homophobic graffiti twice in the past two weeks.
Residents of the area have expressed their anger at these graffitied slurs, with one explaining how “disgusted” she is.
Another resident, Rhys Morgan, a member of the LGBTQ+ society at the University of Salford, has spoken out about the continuous use of these slurs, he said: “I think in any case, to use a word like that is pretty backwards, and it doesn’t make you feel great knowing that people still use that term as a form of negativity.
“It just brings you back to 2012 really, and that sort of time when even for me, it was used as a way of ostracising against a group of people at school.”
Rhys explained that although he doesn’t personally feel threatened by this form of abuse, it could definitely affect someone else quite badly.
He said: “It doesn’t make me feel threatened, I would get the bus anyway from there, regardless. I just think that it feels weird to know that someone is out there putting that stuff out there and going around thinking that’s a good idea.
“It might not threaten me, but it could do that to someone else.”
